Who is Bajinder Singh is a complex fabric with threads of transformation, religious faith, and scandal interwoven. On 10 September 1982, a Hindu Jat family in Yamunanagar, Haryana, brought him into this world. His early life was an open-ended ride which transformed his existence so astronomically. Bajinder spent time in jail for a conviction of murder in 2008. It was in the walls of prison that he met a Christian minister, an encounter that kindled a profound spiritual revival. Studying the Bible, Bajinder became a Christian, a conversion he credited to the miraculous healing he experienced while in prison.

From Jail to Jesus: Bajinder Singh’s Religious Transformation

After his release in 2012, Bajinder set out to spread the new faith. He started conducting Sunday prayer meetings, initially attracting humble congregations in Jalandhar and Chandigarh. His charismatic personality and assertions of conducting ‘miraculous healings’ struck a chord with many people, prompting a surge in his following. By 2016, this momentum found its peak with the founding of his own ministry, the Church of Glory and Wisdom. The next year, he expanded his presence by opening up a second church in Tajpur. His ministry expanded geometrically, with several branches within Punjab and branches overseas in places such as Canada, the UK, and Dubai.

Bajinder’s techniques of evangelism were very modern. He spread videos of his purported healing sessions using social networking sites. The sessions used to consist of singing “Mera Yeshu Yeshu,” a prayer that became synonymous with his devotions. His YouTube channel followed by over 3.74 million people and his Instagram username had over one million followers. In the videos, Bajinder stated that he was curing diseases from HIV to paralysis, using “anointing oil” in most of his ceremonies. All these claims, though gaining lots of attention, also raised doubts and criticism from all sides.

2018 rape case

Even though he rose to prominence, Bajinder’s path has been plagued by a string of controversies. In 2018, a woman accused him of rape, saying that he raped her at his house in Sector 63, Chandigarh, and recorded the act. She also stated that he threatened to post the video on social media if she did not agree to his terms. This resulted in his arrest at Indira Gandhi International Airport when he was trying to board a flight to London. Even though he was subsequently released on bail, the case hung over his ministry for a long time.

In March 2025, Bajinder was again faced with a legal battle when he was accused by a woman of sexually harassing her since 2020 when she was 17 years old. She accused him of sending her obscene messages and inappropriately touching her in personal meetings at the church. These accusations led to charges under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Bajinder Singh slapped a woman, caught on camera

Adding to his public image woes, a video emerged of Bajinder slapping a woman after an argument. The February 14 footage showed him tossing papers at the woman before slapping her, prompting public outrage and further scrutiny of his behavior.

Bajinder’s ministry also attracted the Income Tax Department’s scrutiny because of allegations of financial impropriety. His followers had accused him of taking money in exchange for miracles that never materialized, raising ethical and legal issues about his activities.

BOLLYWOOD CONNECTIONS

Despite these controversies, Bajinder enjoyed a large fan base. His functions typically carried the burden of Bollywood faces like Chunky Pandey, Jaya Prada, Arbaaz Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, and Aditya Pancholi, who visited his functions, lending a sheen of legality and glamour to his affairs.

The Court’s Verdict: Life Imprisonment for the ‘Yeshu Yeshu’ Pastor

The case of Bajinder Singh is typical of the type of complexity at the nexus of religion, individual transformation, and public esteem. His conversion from prisoner to would-be prophet is one of concern over salvation and human attempts to explain it. But the serious allegations and court litigation that he initiates bring one back to the responsibility that comes with leadership in the realm of religion. As his drama unfolds, it poses questions of larger dimensions regarding responsibility, what faith is, and the subtle interplay between charisma in private life and trust in public life.
